our main two systems are pocket nappies and snap in one nappies.
POCKET NAPPIES:
Pocket nappies have a waterproof outer layer. the layer aginst the skin is stay dry and stain resistant, there is a pocket opening just inside the front of the nappy to add the absorbency having this opening means you can add almost anything to the inside of the nappy for absorbency and keep adding to the absorbency if your child requires it. you will need to change the whole nappy as required.
SNAP IN ONE NAPPIES (SIO Nappies):
Snap in one nappies have a waterproof outer layer with a stay dry liner the snap in one nappies have absorbent pads that snap onto the inside of the nappy you can add more topper pads or thicker pads for more or less absorbency as required. 1 big advanatge with this system is that sometimes you will only need to change the top snap in absorbent pad and use the same outer a few times before washing is required.
SIZES?
Both designs are a one size fits most design they should fit from around 5kgs up to 20kgs. by adjusting the snaps down the front of the nappy you can make the nappy bigger or smaller you can leave these snaps in the setting needed when washing and drying no need to undo them and do them up each time. then just fasten on the tummy snaps as required.
i designed this nappy for my own daughter i wanted something that could fit a wide range of sizes so i dident need to keep buying more when she grew but also something that could have the absobency adjusted for when she needed it like night times when your cloth nappy needs to last a little longer (who wants to wake up in the night to a crying baby with wet sheets to change) i gave a few away to some friends to all try and test for me and it was a hit there have been a few changes over the years to perfect my pattern and allthough this design wont fit all babies we have tried to at least cover a few main sizes.
BUT I HERD OSFM_OSFA NAPPIES DONT LAST ALL THE WAY?
some people say that one size fits most or all nappies dont last that long and they will wear out requiring you to buy more nappies anyway... we have designed our nappies with this purpose in mind and we have made sure our nappies will last. if they dont we will repair or replace them for you free of charge so you are garenteed they will last the life of at least 1 baby (most people have used them through more than 1)
IS IT TIME TO CHANGE YOUR NAPPIES?
many studies have been done to show that cloth nappies arent any better for your pocket or the environment but many of the studies have had flaws and assume that you will use the dryer to dry every nappy and one even went as far as saying you needed to iron each nappy (this study was also based on only using the old cloth flats (white squares with pink stripes) the advantage with modern cloth nappies is the fabric have been designed with all these things in mind first of all no way will you be ironing you nappies and the fabrics have been designd to dry faster and use less water to wash. all these things to count towards environmental impact.
but lets be honest most family today are looking into the money factor a set of modern cloth nappies looks like a lot of money to spend?
lets say you need 20 nappies @ $25 each + a few extra inserts for night time $25 = $525
these should last your child most of the way through to toilet training so spread that out over 2 1/2 years thats $5 per week the average washing load costs about $0.50 - $0.60 for electricity and depending on what washing powder you use about $1 per load for washing. with 20 nappies you would probably need to wash 3-4 times a week thats an extra $3-$4 per week making the total about $10 per week.
Most people say they spend about $15-$20 per week for disposables. or to look at the savings over the nappying life of that child
disposables @ $15 per week = $1950
cloth nappies + washing costs = $1300
if you used the same cloth nappies for a second child look at the even bigger savings.
disposables = $1950 total $3900
cloth nappies = $ 520 total $1820
